💥 CAN WE TARGET FAT LOSS ON THE BODY? 💥
Is specific spot reduction possible? Can we do specific movements to encourage fat loss in specific places in our bodies? Like doing oblique work to get rid of love handles for example? Or doing Bicep curls to burn fat specifically in our arms? It would be nice but...no. Simply, no. We can not. Not in any significant way.
Fat comes off and on the body generally in predictable places and in predictable order....
🧝 FOR MEN - Men will store fat first in their stomachs and love handles, then in the chest, shoulders, and face. Arms, legs, and butts will generally be the last place for fat storage in men. So when men start to lose fat it will come off first in the neck and face, then in the chest and shoulders, and lastly in the stomach and love handles. Frustrating right?
🧝🏽♂️ FOR WOMEN - Women store fat first in the legs + hips, then the arms and face, and then in the stomach and love handles. And fat will shed off the body in the reverse pattern - stomachs first and so on.
💪🏼 Building MUSCLE in particular places is somewhat more doable. Training our abs may make them “pop” more once the fat is gone. But burning that fat doesn't come from crunches or curls. Best to gravitate to more compound + full body strength movements and dial in our nutrition.
SO... Want to lose love handles? Want to have leaner more toned arms? Want to shed belly fat? EAT IN A CALORIC DEFICIT + SQUAT AND DEADLIFT HEAVY. Heavy being the key word there.
